The
Streetsville Pipes & Drums were formed in 1986, thanks to the
generous sponsorship of Branch 139, Royal Canadian Legion in
Streetsville. Ontario.
Since
that time, the band has performed at a wide variety of functions
including legion and Santa Claus parades, Scottish Festivals, official
openings, Weddings, corporate dinners, and other special occasions.
Although strictly a non-competing band, it has accumulated an
impressive collection of trophies and awards over the years. The band
is one of the busier ones around, with a typical slate of about thirty
performances a year. Most events take place within a short driving
distance of Mississauga, but in recent years, Streetsville has played
in Sudbury, Rochester, Dunedin, and as far away as Scotland. In 1997,
the band traveled there for 10 days to play at the World Pipe Band
Championships, the Highland Games at Crieff and at several
non-competitive functions. They returned to Scotland for two weeks in
2000, where they were the first group in history to play a private
concert for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and Her Royal Highness,
Princess Margaret while they were on vacation at Balmoral Castle. In
November, 2000, the band had the honour of playing for Prime Minister
Jean Chretien during the Federal Election Campaign.
In August
2004, Streetsville toured Ireland for a period of 10 days, performing
at a Medieval Festival in the Castle at Carrickfergus, the town center
in Galway, Bunratty Castle and for the Lord Mayor of Dublin.
The Band is proud to have as our Honourary Patron Mayor Hazel McCallion of Mississauga. Our tartan is the Red Royal Stewart.
